Building creative confidence and

innovation through art!

You are creative! Yes, you are, whether you are two or 92. David Kelley, in his motivational TED talk, reminds us that we are all creative and that “creativity is critically important to health, happiness, self-worth, and innovation. The secret to building your creative confidence is to remember that you are creative in the first place — to regain that unabashed love of discovery and innovation that you had when you were small.”

Most adults confuse creativity with being an artist with a capital “A”. Many have a false belief that they are not creative because they cannot draw a perfect face or paint like Rembrandt. Some were criticized as children for something they created and gave up on creativity. Not everyone is going to be a Picasso or Beethoven, but there are many reasons why building creative confidence is crucial to your well-being and to your personal development at any age.

Here are 4 reasons why building creative confidence matters:

Creative play helps you relax. Ask your kids. Coloring and building with Legos are two examples.

Creative expression is great for stress relief. You can use painting, drawing, or sculpting with clay to relieve pent-up emotions. Making art is meditative, playful and enjoyable.

Creativity is critical for problem solving and idea generation. As Einstein once said, “We can’t solve problems using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”

Creative development builds community. There used to be knitting or quilting circles where women would gather, connect, chat and create. Today, Art Innovators Studio is bringing groups of all ages together for creative expression and skill building.

“Wow, I didn’t know I could draw that!”

At Art Innovators Studio students of all ages frequently express surprise at their own success. Art Innovators has been teaching visual arts lessons to children in Santa Barbara County schools for 10 years and recently opened a studio that expands its curriculum to include classes and workshops for adults and teens as well. Recent research corroborates what Art Innovators has been witnessing for years: creativity may come easily for some, but it’s a skill that can be developed and honed by everyone.

Owner Onolee Zwicke says, “I decided to start Art Innovators (formerly KidzArt) to share my passion for art with students of all ages, to add more art to my own life, and to have fun. I wanted to inspire kids and adults to unleash their creative energies through the multi-faceted visual arts. I am fascinated and thrilled to watch students in our classes come alive creatively and become more confident in their art and in other areas of their lives.”

Art Innovators has created a safe environment where children, teens and adults can experiment, problem solve, build skills, and produce fantastic art creations.  Whether you need to relax, relieve stress, practice problem solving or learn techniques and skills, the visual arts programs at Art Innovators are specifically designed to build your creative confidence. Join a community of teachers and students who are passionate about the visual arts and recapture the childlike joy of artistic expression through painting, drawing, sculpture, doodling, journaling or collage.

Art Innovators is offering a variety of classes, camps and workshops all summer long for adults, teens and children. Learn more about its programs and register online at www.ArtInnovatorsSB.com or check Facebook for a sneak peak at what Art Innovators is creating.
